POST-FACIAL CARE

TRY NOT TO WEAR MAKEUP

After a facial, it's important to avoid applying anything other than sunscreen for the remainder of the day. This is because your skin and pores are thoroughly cleansed, making it more susceptible to irritation. Taking a break from makeup will also allow the serums, creams, or peels that were used to be more effective.

SKIP THE GYM + SAUNA

Avoiding the gym and sauna after a facial is also a must! If you have to fit in a workout that day, try going before your facial appointment. Your freshly exfoliated and cleansed skin will be much more sensitive to sweat and heat and may cause irritation, which we definitely don’t want to happen. Wait at least 24 hours before getting back into the gym or sauna.

STAY OUT OF THE SUN

After receiving a facial, it's important to be aware that your skin is more susceptible to the harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays. To protect your newly refreshed skin, avoid prolonged sun exposure and make sure to apply and reapply sunscreen throughout the day. This is a great habit to incorporate into your daily skincare routine for long-term anti-aging benefits. Remember, prevention is key, and sunscreen is an effective way to prevent damage before it occurs.

USE A SILK PILLOWCASE

An often overlooked tip is using a silk pillowcase. Not only is it good for the health of your hair, but it’s amazing for your skin too, especially if you suffer from acne. Silk fibers absorb less moisture and bacteria than your typical cotton, creating a much cleaner sleeping environment. Silk also offers less skin friction, helping prevent irritation and damage.

NO PICKING

Great skin is a result of consistent care and patience. If you suffer from acne or blackheads, it's important to resist the urge to pick at your skin. Your skin therapist knows best and has likely left certain blemishes for a reason. Using extractor tools on your own can lead to scarring or introducing harmful bacteria to the skin, especially after a facial. Trust the process and give your skin the time it needs to heal.

LISTEN TO YOUR SKIN THERAPIST

To maintain your glowing skin, your esthetician will recommend a personalized skincare routine specifically curated for your skin and your concerns. This will take the guesswork out of finding the right at-home routine and will put you on track to achieving the skin you desire. They may also recommend lifestyle or habit changes you can make as well. And if you’ve had a more intensive treatment like a peel, they may recommend specific aftercare instructions to help with your skin’s healing process. A lot of work happens in the treatment room, but the work you do at home will prolong and extend beyond the benefits of just facials alone.

BE GENTLE

It's important to handle your skin with care after a facial. To prevent any irritation, it's recommended to avoid using retin-a , retinol, scrubs, and exfoliating acids for 3 - 5 days after your facial. Instead, choose gentle and nourishing products that will provide hydration and protection to your skin.
